My name is JP Aubineau, and I am a proud new owner of a '79X. Paid $400, and despite a minor tranny issue (see earlier post), it runs pretty good. The guy I bought it from used to race it, and I'll probably do a little of the same, but primarily for a summer driver.
One of the things I was curious to know was, and please feel free to flame me for asking - (I can take the abuse...)
Has anyone considered tossing in a Nitrus Kit to get a little added "kick" to their X?
I have the 1500cc in my 79. Thoughts, suggestions, warnings?

Head, hot cam, free flow exhaust (manifold and muffler), etc. My understanding is that the stock parts in an X are not up to the wear and tear of a nitros boost, but with a little work, I do not see a problem with it.
I am pulling my head off my parts car to machine down for better compression, and considering a big valve replacement, and along with Steve Ambrose, we kinda think there is already a hot cam in my 78, it just accelerates much better than my 77 did, then a dual carb set up. After all of that is done, along with sway bars, and a little body work, then I will see if I would still like to do a Nitros Kit.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

One guy in Sweden turboed his 1500 and was getting 150hp out of it, his was a homemade job with an intercooler and water injection which you can make yourself. There is a perfectly safe way to do this. Dwight on the east coast was a fiat parts guy and they turboed an X and had no probs. The X they turboed was stock, they just added a turbo and an intercooler. Dwight said the change was very noticeable. Several turbo kits were produced for the X in the 80's without the supposed problem that PBS was talking about. I have a few web sites you can look at if your are interested. Think of it, 150hp with increased torque and you do not have to increase compresion. We can all banish those low hp and torque demons into the darkness from whence they came and race one with the sweet sound of our 128 into the night with our tops off and lights shining brightly upon the road ahead thanks to Tony and his relays. So join me JP into the realm of higher hp and torque as we venture into already trod but somewhat squinted at turboization of our baby ferrari's. Yes you have released my perchant for more power once again and it will not be quenched. Come JP and enter into the turbozone and live happily ever after with enough power to spit mr2's and those silly fiero things out of your exhaust. And as the day wears on, hunt porches and vets and make their owners cry and want to get one of what we have. That was refreshing.

I live up on frigid Minnesota, and I am a 1st time owner of an X. I bought the car 2 weeks ago from the guy I bought my house from. $400 is what I paid. I dont have pictures yet, but I know a few people around that have a digital camera that I could borrow. The car overall is in pretty good shape. I believe myself and 3 others are the only known X owners in the state.
hopefully that means good pickings in the boneyards...(just started hunting).
Anyhow, plans for the X? I will probably do a little racing, but overall I think it will be my summer driver. Currently I have a tranny project going on for the car, and the outcome as of last night doesn't look to good.
So alas, I shall try to work on the interior a little bit until I can save my pennies for a new tranny.

One guy in Sweden turboed his 1500 and was getting 150hp out of it, his was a homemade job with an intercooler and water injection which you can make yourself. There is a perfectly safe way to do this. Dwight on the east coast was a fiat parts guy and they turboed an X and had no probs. The X they turboed was stock, they just added a turbo and an intercooler. Dwight said the change was very noticeable. Several turbo kits were produced for the X in the 80's without the supposed problem that PBS was talking about. I have a few web sites you can look at if your are interested. Think of it, 150hp with increased torque and you do not have to increase compresion. We can all banish those low hp and torque demons into the darkness from whence they came and race one with the sweet sound of our 128 into the night with our tops off and lights shining brightly upon the road ahead thanks to Tony and his relays. So join me JP into the realm of higher hp and torque as we venture into already trod but somewhat squinted at turboization of our baby ferrari's. Yes you have released my perchant for more power once again and it will not be quenched. Come JP and enter into the turbozone and live happily ever after with enough power to spit mr2's and those silly fiero things out of your exhaust. And as the day wears on, hunt porches and vets and make their owners cry and want to get one of what we have. That was refreshing.

I live up on frigid Minnesota, and I am a 1st time owner of an X. I bought the car 2 weeks ago from the guy I bought my house from. $400 is what I paid. I dont have pictures yet, but I know a few people around that have a digital camera that I could borrow. The car overall is in pretty good shape. I believe myself and 3 others are the only known X owners in the state.
hopefully that means good pickings in the boneyards...(just started hunting).
Anyhow, plans for the X? I will probably do a little racing, but overall I think it will be my summer driver. Currently I have a tranny project going on for the car, and the outcome as of last night doesn't look to good.
So alas, I shall try to work on the interior a little bit until I can save my pennies for a new tranny.

You can go to this site and do a search for transmissions - when I did, I found 5 ranging in price from $250 to $500, but none in MN. Looks like OH or KY were closest.
You can also try http://www.autopartsfinder.com/ and do a search, too. Found one in SD at http://www.car-nection.com/acar.
