How to renew Stock Brake Caliper sliding surface?

Sadly the UT brakes are pretty much non existent on the market anymore. And too much demand and too little supply mean if you do find any then you are likely to pay way too much for them. At that point you may as well buy one of the aftermarket solutions, which may be an even better option anyway.
 
Just curious, why did you fill in the pits?
My thought is the pits are an ideal place for grit to accumulate and interfere with the sliding action. I think about a little rock settling into a pit with it's top sticking up above the pit. And if there are a number of these that occur they could potentially stop the sliding action altogether. If the surface is smooth and this grit accumulates (and I am sure it will) as the sliding occurs it will have a much easier time pushing the grit out of the way.
