Uno Turbo Front Caliper Install

I found this Iruna dual circuit master that is only 13" long and should fit where the windshield washer reservoir is now located. Production is limited and is from Spain and sold by a few UK vendors that don't want to ship across the pond. I am going to look a bit further and see if I can find a vendor that would ship this way without us having to go through a member and pay the Value Added Tax then pay import tax here as well.
Here is a picture not great but gives you the idea of what I am thinking.

Just found this site, states on order I will email him and see if he ships this way or not.

Tony, have you looked at servos and M/Cs from other Fiats? With a LHD car I think it wouldn't be too hard to fit one to the bulkhead in front of the pedals and put a pushrod through something like PBS did for their race brakes. I have been looking at doing this for my Dallara but the (RHD) brake pedal is a bit close to the inner wing so I would need some clever rocker or bell crank arrangement.

That is why I am looking at this remote servo. It may be a solution.

Going the bulkhead route I do not think is possible as most cars use the bulkhead type of installation and the Fiat X1/9 does not have room for this under the scuttle.
I want to stay away from linkage with direct engagement as the fitment will become complicated and use up a lot of room in the front boot.

Do not like power assisted brakes in a two seaters at all. The goal appears to be reducing brake pedal effort. Brake pedal effort is only one aspect of brake performance.

The exxe has no power assist for the brakes, but there is no question the brakes have every ability to lock up wheels under hard braking. This does require significant brake pedal effort.

Compared to the majority of modern cars, the non-power assisted brakes on the exxe requires a LOT more pedal effort for a given rate of deceleration. It is possible given most exxe owners today also drive a modern car with power assisted brakes from vacuum or pressure pump or etc (point of reference) will give the impression brake pedal effort on the exxe is too high.

The vast majority of power assisted brakes on modern cars are not to my liking at all. The pedal effort is too low, brakes too grabby and difficult to modulate as they rely on electro-mechanics to impose anti-lock over driver control.

IMO, the brakes on the exxe when properly set up is excellent in pedal feel, modulation, stopping power. without any power assist.
Keep in mind most light weight race cars do not have power assist and more than a few track folks remove the stock vacuum brake booster to fix the inconsistent braking problem common to vacuum assisted brake systems.

Rachael, for design ideas to consider, take a look at what the VW Mk1 Golf customizers do to hide the brakes under the dash (to clean-up or "shave" the engine bay). They use a bell-crank type arrangement and the entire set-up is available pre-fabricated:

One such 'kit':

And to include a small booster:

Just some thoughts to promote ideas.

These Uno Turbo calipers have been ready for years to be installed. Finally decided to spend about 1.5 hours to get this done.

Rather uneventful conversion. Stock Fiat bits essentially with a simple remove and replace. Next up is to bed in the pads.

Rear calipers were converted to 38mm diameter pistons variety. I'll post that project later.

Does any one know where Bernice obtained the hose adapters from Banjo bolt to threaded boss on the calipers?

I have been looking but have not had any success.

Thanks.

hose adapters from Banjo bolt to threaded boss
Tony, I might be misunderstanding what part you are asking about. But the threaded hole in the caliper is a standard straight thread (not tapered), so either a fitting or banjo bolt can be used in it alternatively without any adapter. In one of her pics I see she has a temporary (white) sleeve bolted onto the hole to plug it. Maybe that is what you are seeing? Or maybe I've missed your question.

I think you are correct. I want to take the Fiat 500 Abarth caliper and direct bolt it with flex lines to Bob Martin's X1/9 with stock hoses. I suppose I could ask does anyone know of a vendor or a place to purchase brake line hose and ends and can crimp them myself?

Thanks.

If You can’t find any, let me know- 4pcs with stainless ends (and braided pipes if it’s how they are called) were something around 100€ (in Latvia) if I recall correctly. Could be cheaper few € if You crimp by Yourself.

I did a search for ‘custom brake hose’ and received lots of hits. Here is one: http://www.venhillusa.com/make-your-own-custom-brake-line-1.html
There we many more and yes they are in the US

One in Canada:

Knowing Bernice (and you) she likely made them herself :)

Things to consider with this. The components are not difficult to source, most any hydraulic supply place can get them for you. But brake hoses are not a standard method of crimping. It requires a specific machine/equipment to do the crimping properly (to work safely with brake systems). This service is available through the same hydraulic supply places as the components, so it is much easier to take your dimensions to them and have them make the hoses. They are not expensive to have done, I pay $15 per brake hose (S/S braided, any length, any fittings).

If you want to use premade hoses that are universally available through sources like Jegs/Speedway/etc, then you will need adaptors to fit them. Only because the thread pitch they use is the common size for American systems and we have a different thread on the Fiat stuff. But those adaptors are also available from hydraulic supply houses.

Regarding the threads on the Fiat calipers. You can swap the hoses and fittings from the front and rear calipers to see what I am saying about them being the same. Banjo and non-banjo both fit both calipers. The only difference is some calipers (depending on the original maker of them) are not fully machined with the flat pad around the threaded hole for a banjo to sit squarely against the caliper housing. It will be obvious when you look at the two types side by side.

Powerbreak setup. I am just in the process of removing it.
Very cool. Is this something you made? Curious why you are removing it?

Others have expressed the desire to add power brakes to the X. I've always thought the easiest way to do it is how yours are. Makes the frunk unable to store the top, but sometimes trade-offs are necessary. This is really the only practical way to do it without a massive amount of modification and complicated plumbing. Do you know what vehicle that power set-up came off of?

I bought it that way and i am now in the proces getting this car back on the road. On my other X i never had an issue with the breaks. Okay, you need to push a little harder, but i breaks well. Therefor i remove the powerbreak setup. It is still possible to store the roof in the frunk.
I don’t know where the metal dome comes from. It was attached with four bolts. Two of them accesible through the space where the steeringrack is. The break cylinder is from a Fiat.
